How do I remove a password from a PDF?

Quick answer

Choose the locked PDF, type its password and press Unlock. The PDF is opened inside your browser with that password and saved again as a new PDF without any password, or as JPG images. You need to know the password: this tool does not guess or crack passwords.

  1. Choose or drop the password-protected PDF.
  2. Type the password you use to open it.
  3. Press Unlock and download the PDF without a password.

Remove Password from PDF Online

Use this PDF password remover to save a copy of a PDF that opens without a password: bank statements, credit card bills, salary slips, Form 16 and e-Aadhaar. You need to know the password; the tool opens the file with it and saves an unlocked copy. For e-Aadhaar, try the Aadhaar PDF password helper.

Where people use it

Common PDF password formats in India

DocumentUsual password
e-Aadhaar (UIDAI)First 4 letters of name in capitals + year of birth, e.g. SURE1990 (Aadhaar helper)
Bank and credit card statementsOften part of your name with date of birth, or customer ID — the exact rule is printed in the bank's email
Salary slips, Form 16Commonly PAN in capitals or employee ID with date of birth

Formats vary by bank and employer; the email that delivered the PDF usually explains the rule.

What the unlocked copy looks like

Each page is redrawn at 200 DPI and saved into a new PDF with no password, so it looks the same on screen and in print. Because pages are saved as images, text in the unlocked copy cannot be selected. If you need the text, run the unlocked copy through PDF to text.

PDFs that open but will not print or copy

Some PDFs have no open password but still block printing, copying or editing (an "owner" or permissions password). Leave the password box empty and press Unlock: the tool opens the file, redraws every page and saves a new copy without those restrictions. As with all unlocked copies here, pages are saved as images, so use PDF to text if you also need the words.

Forgot the password?

This tool cannot recover a password you do not know, and it will not try. Places to look first: the email or SMS that delivered the statement usually spells out the rule (often part of your name plus date of birth, or your customer ID); the bank's net-banking site lets you download the statement again; for Form 16 and payslips ask your HR team. For e-Aadhaar, the rule is fixed: see the Aadhaar PDF password helper.

PDF Password Remover FAQs

Can you remove a password if I forgot it?

No. The tool only works when you know the password. It does not attempt to crack or bypass encryption.

Why do portals reject password-protected PDFs?

Upload systems cannot open encrypted files to check them, so they ask for an unlocked copy. Save one here, then upload it.

Is my password sent anywhere?

Can I unlock an e-Aadhaar PDF?

Yes. Use the e-Aadhaar helper, which works out the password from your name and year of birth.

Can I remove a password from a PDF without knowing it?

No. The open password is needed to read the file at all; this tool only saves an unlocked copy of a PDF you can already open.

How do I remove printing or copying restrictions?

Leave the password empty and press Unlock. If the PDF opens without a password, the saved copy has no restrictions.

Where do I find my bank statement password?

Check the email or SMS from the bank, which explains the format, or download the statement again from net banking.

Is it safe to unlock bank statements here?

Yes. The file and the password stay in your browser; nothing is uploaded to a server.
