Copy text from a picture on your phone
Tap Take photo of text to open the camera straight from this page, or pick a photo or screenshot from your gallery. Hold the phone parallel to the page, fill the frame with the text and avoid shadows; then press Extract text and Copy. It works the same for WhatsApp forwards, notices on a wall, receipts and book pages.
Handwriting and the Google Docs trick
OCR is built for printed text. Neat block capitals are often read correctly, but joined-up handwriting usually is not, here or in most free tools. Another free route people use is uploading the image to Google Drive and opening it with Google Docs, which also runs OCR; it needs a Google account and uploads the image, whereas this tool keeps the photo on your device.

JPG to Text FAQs
Can it read handwriting?
Neat block letters sometimes work, but OCR is designed for printed text. Handwriting is usually not recognised reliably.
How do I get a Word file instead?
Use JPG to Word, which runs the same OCR and saves a .docx you can edit in Word or Google Docs.
Why is the text wrong in places?
Blur, shadows, curved pages and low light confuse OCR. Retake the photo straight on in good light, or crop to the text area.
Is it free?
Yes, with no limits and no sign-up. The OCR runs on your device.
How do I copy text from a picture?
Choose the picture, pick its language and tap Extract text. When the text appears, tap Copy text and paste it anywhere.
Can it convert handwriting to text?
Only neat block letters work reasonably well. Cursive handwriting is not recognised reliably by OCR.
Can I copy text from a screenshot?
Yes. Screenshots usually give the best results because the text is sharp and evenly lit.
Can it read Gujarati or Marathi text in an image?
Yes. Choose English + Gujarati or English + Marathi from the language list before extracting.
